If Keemuns are the aristocrats of Chinese black teas, Yunnan black teas are the frugal yet happy cousins. Earthy to the point of being almost vigorously assertive, Yunnan teas have a maple sweetness that wins you over with their charm.
Our Yunnan black tea is also called Dianhong tea buds, Yunnan goden tips hongcha, or Golden monkey black tea, Jin hao hongcha,. It is a famous Chinese black tea whose leaves are said to resemble monkey paws.
Golden Monkey is hand-processed each spring with careful plucking of one bud only from the top of tea tree. Hand picked tea buds in early spring, before tea buds grow into layers of leaves on the tea bush. And our skilled tea masters control the oxidation process through every layer of the bud during processing to prevent black tea being over oxidized to be sour, and make the tea to be heavy and tannic during subtle tea processing details.
Yunnan Pure Gold Golden Monkey tea is a superior grade of Yunnan black tea, comprised solely of gold tips covered in much finer golden hairs. Thus, its rich, coating texture and very smooth, with hints of cocoa chestnut note, soft delicate sweetness mouth feel are both signs of a quality golden monkey black tea.
Yunnnan black teas generally have a similar taste but Yunnan Golden Monkey tea is slightly more gentle and sweet due to the loss of the richer brown buds. Best served without milk.
