Gyokuro ("jade dew") is one of Japan's rarest and most prized teas, while our fragrant and delicious Gyokuro is grown and processed in Zhejiang Province in China by using the unique production process of Japanese Gyokuro. The name "gyokuro" translates as "jewel dew" (or "jade dew", referring to the pale green color of the infusion).

Though it is categorized as a type of sencha according to production methods, Gyokuro cultivation differs from other sencha teas. It is is a type of shaded green tea. Gyokuro tea leaves are shielded from the sun for at least 20 days with straw mats before being harvested. This causes both the amino acid theanine and the alkaloid caffeine in the tea leaves to increase, which yields a sweet flavour. The tea also gains a distinct aroma from the covering process.

Its long, straight, slender and dark green leaves like pine needles are produced by shading the tea plant approximately three weeks before it is hand cut with scissors. Consisting of only the tender leaf tips, we are pleased to offer this season's recent pickings. It yields a greenish-gold color with a mild flavor and incomparable natural flowery aroma when brewed.
